I have a hunter royal oak. It has 3 wires. A white, a green and a black. In my ceiling I have a
White black green and red which works the independent light kit. How would I wire that up?

It sounds like your fan does not have a light kit. Is that true?
If it doesn't, then I would attach a wire nut to the red wire and securely tape it to insulate it from everything else.
Then, just attach white to white, black to black, and green to green.

Now, if the arrangement above means your only way of controlling the fan is with the pull-chain, I'd instead use the red wire (which I assume goes to a switch) and hook it to the fan's black wire and tape off the black wire in the ceiling to insulate it from all others. Then the wall switch will control the fan.

If you DO have a light kit, then there should be an additional (usually blue) wire in the fan somewhere and I'd hook that to the red wire.

I hope this helps,
