Is there a stepparent in the kids' lives that is willing to adopt them and thereby let you off the hook for child support? You would also lose your rights to the kids themselves if this was the route you took...
Have you had a decrease in pay since the child support was ordered? I'm not sure about NC laws, but generally if there's a 10% decrease in your pay, then you might could go back to court for a downward modification in child support...
Other than that, there's not much else you could do unless you get custody of the kids yourself... or the custodial parent decides to let you off the hook for paying support...

First off how much of your pay is really going to child support ? If your not in arrears ( behind on CS payments ) then the federal legal limit is about 50% of gross at the max level. If you are in arrears then the max can jump to 65% of gross. Another thing is that if your paying court mandated insurance for your children then the price of the insurance ( the out of pocket policy expense ) is also added into the percentage figures. So make sure your getting full credit for what is already being paid. From the looks of it your at the 50% level and paying into a 25% tax bracket so that means 75% of your money is disappearing before you even see it. Cosult a lawyer and maybe they can get a closer handle on your given situation.
