View Full Version : Freelance designer: Can I collect unemployment?

I have work on site at an ad agency for the past 5 years, off and on, on a freelance basis, they pay me with company checks, I am 1099. They recently have lost a big client and didn't need me, it usually doesn't last very long and then I am asked to come in again, but this time they haven't used me in over a month and I have no other income, no other freelance accounts.

This place usually keeps me so busy that I really didn't need any other accounts until now. Is there any resource to help me financially until I either find another freelance situation or a full-time job? Can I collect unemployment since I worked on-site so many hours?

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks

No, as a 1099 employee no one was paying in for unemployment insurance. So since you were not an employee you can not get it.
You were self employed.
