Hi,

Im having a problem with a strong smell coming from my en-suite bathroom. The smell only comes from this room in the house and I feel it is like an electrical smell, although other people who have entered the en-suite say it is like sewage, dead animal etc etc.

I need a solution to this problem as it has been going on for 11 months or so now, it is a 2 year old bottom floor apartment and I have been told by someone dealing with the Defect works on the development that it could be damp insulation. If so how do I fix this or confirm it? Who do I talk to about the smell/insulation?

Is there a company that specifically deals with this problem or insulation smells in the Glasgow area?

Please help me out with some answers,

Cheers

David

The insulation in a bathroom deals with a lot of water vapor moisture. It should have a vapor barrier to keep it dry. Could be the vapor barrier is facing the wrong way. And you should have an exhaust fan in there to carry away moisture. If you think it is an electrical smell perhaps insulation is in the walls surrounding and too close to electrical wiring that is staying warmer than normal because of it. It should not be right up against the wiring. Turn off the power to that room and use a screwdriver to remove the face plate on a switch or outlet and try to look in there to see if you can tell. A sewage smell would be the vent pipes from the plumbing fixtures are obstucted or maybe they are poorly designed.
