My ex and I bought a house in 2003. We broke up in 2005. In the time that I lived in the house that we own together I never had to pay any of the mortgage. But now my ex want me to pay for half of the mortgage in a house that I don't live. After we broke up he wouldn't let me into the house to get my stuff. So why should I have to pay half of a mortgage of a house that I don't live or allowed to go in?

If your name is on the mortgage, then you have a moral obligation to pay. However, you don't have to pay if you don't mind leaving the burden to him and hoping that he doesn't let it get foreclosed. He may also try to take you to court for half of what he has had to pay, seeing as you're entitled to the profit if the house is ever sold.

If your name is on the mortgage you have a legal obligation to pay - the mortgage company doesn't care what went on between the two of you, it only cares who signed the mortgage contract.

If he wouldn't let you back in in 2005 your time to sue for the return of your "stuff" has probably passed.

Morally should you pay for a house you don't/haven't lived in? That's for another board. Legally it's your debt and if he doesn't pay or the bank forecloses or he files in bankruptcy they can come after you and it will be on your credit report.
