Ok, please someone answer me this _ I was laying in bed for the past few mornings, then again late in the evening I hear Country music "I HATE COUNTRY" so this is very uncomfortable to fall asleep to... I isolated it to my ceiling fan!! Yes my Ceiling fan, when it has current actually plays music!! I know that radio receivers and fan coils are of "Similar" design - however this has got to be the Oddest appliance issue out there... Please help - anyone? Before you ask - no it doesn't have speakers - I don't even own a radio - I only stream online.

Dear OddlyinKentucky

If what you say is true, there must be some strong radio station very near to you (a pirate station perhaps?).
This can only happen when part of the radio signal (or a signal leaking in via the power circuitry) is in some way picked-up inside the fan coils and/or circuitry.

I suggest you install a suppression capacitor (the type you find in drills or other motors) and mount that as near as possible over the hot and cold power leads to the fan, preferably in the unit itself.

That will stop your nightly concert.
At least for you, I hope that !

when it has current actually plays music!!!

You mean only when its 'on' that it emmits those 'sounds' ? I think that it may be someone near your house putting the radio at high volume, or worse someone's been playing a trick on you. If neither of these are the causes, then Credendovidis's right.

Are you sure it's the fan? Is it a remote fan?

We have the same with our floor standing fan, our normal radio signals are weak but you can hear the radio pretty clearly when the fan is on.

I was fixing an audio amplifier in the '70's, no tuner, it would pick up music. Just Strange.
The fans doing this is especially strange as most fans I have seen, don't have speakers. Unless something is resonating? Still strange.
