I have a riding lawn mower and the rear axle is sliding out. How do I go about repairing this? It appears to be held in with a clip at the end of the axle which would require me taking the hydrostat rear end apart to fix. Any advice or information would be very helpful. Thanks

Yes, remove the transaxle, separate the case, have plenty of shop towels handy, and replace the clip inside the transaxle.

Thanks Mowerman. I finally got a chance to tear into it and it was just as you said. Although I was able to drain the oil first which helped ease the mess. The thing I noticed when I tore it a part was the excessive play in the gears. The gear that the axle came out of had enough back and forth play in it that it was allowing the clip to fall out. I had to make a shim to help hold the clip in. Everything worked great when finished. Thanks for your help.
