My son has dropped out of school and has tried getting his GED without success. He can not or does not hold a job. We have had many problems as a mother and son and have the police at the house on many occasions. He has tried staying with his father or friends, but always has trouble and I give in and give him another chance to make his way. He has now become abusive emotionally and mentally and I feel depressed. What can I do?

If he is unwilling to help himself, your help may not work for him either.

Give him a formal eviction and let him know that he cannot walk all over you. You offer help and he basically spits in your face, you refuse to help him anymore.

What state are you in because some states make parents responsible for their children until age 21.

Actually no after 18 they can be evicted. Before that, you will have to get faimily and children services to act

I agree... I have had enough. It will be painful, but I will get over it and move on.

The state is Florida

Any of the states that have child support running until a child is 21 is a state that by law requires a parent to be responsible for the child otherwise child support would end at 18.

I think Mich is one of them but Im not positive.

That is only if she is getting child support. That doesn't mean that just because you can obtain child support until that age in that state, that all parents have to be financially responsible for their children until aged 21.

And good luck Sandra, it's time to put your foot down and make him take responsibility for his actions. Teach him how to be an adult.
