View Full Version : No cooling!

I have a second heat and air unit on the second floor of my house that I never use. I tried to crank it up today and no cooling! The unit inside and out was on but the temperature stayed at 92 degrees for about 20 minutes, then I turned it off. Any ideas on what I should do, or what the problem could be?
Thanks

So, I tried again this morning. I also tought that maybe 20 minutes in 90 degree temperature was not enough time... The tempstat this morning read 84, so I set the air on 82 to see if anything happened. After 20-25 minutes the temperature was still 84. Air was blowing, didn't seem too cold but neither warm...
I really never use this unit, maybe turned on 5 times in the past 4 years, when it was installed. The question is: does not using the unit hurts it? Since I don't plan to use it, it was installed just for resale value on the house when we finished part of the upstairs, should I get it fixed? Does it sound like an expensive fix to you experts?
Thanks

Dear amcmtipton

First of all : check if the compressor is running and get's hot.
If not running, check the thermostat setting.
If running but not hot, the system has a gasleak (time to get a specialist involved)

First try the circuit breakers inside and the fuses outside.

20 minutes is not very long to see a difference in a 92 degree room. After you determine that everything is working right, check the temp. of the incoming air,, could take a few hours to cool down a very hot area, even when everything is working right
