I have a hampton bay ceiling fan that works w/a remote and has no pullchain. I can turn on the light and fan by a wall street, and I can turn the fan on and off with the remote. Unfortunately, I am unable to turn off the light and keep the fan on. Where is the receiver located in the fan?

The receiver is located either in the motor assembly or possibly in the canopy (http://img2.timeinc.net/toh/i/a/interiors/ceiling-fans-05.jpg) that attaches to the ceiling (in the guy's left hand in the photo).
What it sounds like to me is that whoever hooked it up attached the light circuit directly to the power and not to the receiver. You are astute in looking at the receiver hookup.
Good luck,

It could be wired incorrectly, it could also be a shorted receiver. Does the remote LED light when you try to control it?
