I have a 2001 grand am pontiac. The engine was making a rattling noise so I replaced the cams, timing belt, tensioners, guides, and its still making that noise. What do I do now, replace the water pump could it be the water pump?

My 2000 Taurus was making a whine that I could not isolate, even with a mechanic's stethoscope. I decided to replace the water pump, which solved the problem. Sometimes, you are forced to make educated guesses and hope for the best.

That motor can be plagued with noise and vibration concerns.

Because the chain has to come off to replace the water pump, the pump is often recommended any time you have to remove the timing chain for any reason.

It's not easy access, either! Note that it's mounted low on the right side of the engine.

Is there a certain time that you're hearing the noise(i.e.: only at idle, only on decelerating... )? How many miles are on the car and what size motor is in the vehicle?

Captainrich you were right it was the waterpump.

I am having the same problem, My car rumbles at stops and in idle. Its either the fuel pump or fuel filter that's causing not enough fuel to get to the engine.

I honestly would run it down to Meineke ask for an appraisal of the costs to fix it (this is free) then get to auto zone and pick up the parts.
