SO last year I developed a super sore throat, I went to the doctor and he said he'd give me a throat swab and if it came positive for Strep, he'd give me an anti-biotic, if he didn't contact me, it meant I had mono and only rest could cure it. I've been back twice and I feel he is losing patience with me. I didn't feel I had mono, I wasn't fatigued and didn't have a fever, only a painfully aching throat. (so much so, I was waking myself up in the night when ever I'd swallow) I nursed it for a while and it went away, then came back for a bit, then went away. (I probably went through 5 box of neo citrin~ not good) Around the same time this year, the same thing happened again so I nursed it again, it went away, now after a couple months it's back again. Only difference is, this time, it feel my tongue in swollen, mostly at the back, I find myself trying not to slur.. Someone mentioned allergies, so I bought a day time antihistamine and benadryl for night time. My throat STILL hurts. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Unfortunately without the proper lab work, we can only guess what is going on. You will have to visit your doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Now, it could be allergies. Do you live in a warm climate? Do you have ceiling fans in your home? Do you sleep with a fan on?

With strep throat you will most likely run a fever.

You need to see an ENT

What is an ENT. I will ask my doctor for blood work to detect mono, I've had two swabs for Strep and nothing and I keep going back to the doctor and no he's just getting annoyed. I live in the cleanest air around, northwest because.. no need for a fan and I dust very often... ;S

J_9 is right in the sense that you need proper labwork. If your doctor is not listening to you, then find another one. A doctor's job is to find out what's wrong with your body, not to get frustrated and dismiss it.
