My daughter is pregnant she went to Dr today for sonogram. Dr. did sonogram and could not see embryo. So she did a vaginal sonogram, ultasound not sure the correct one. She then said she found the embryo but it has no sac around it. Daughter has also been cramping real bad for the past few days. What is weird the Dr she seen a few days before said she was like 12 weeks pregnant from her vaginal testing. She is already showing and gained like 5 lbs. So what I'm trying to ask at what stage should the sac be present? The Dr. today did not have a lot to say other than if she started bleeding to come back into office. So I just think something is not right. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Have you gone to the Dr. with your daughter? Do you know for certain she has gone to this Dr. You are right in thinking that there is definitely something not right, and totally wrong here with this whole thing! Are you "certain" your daughter is pregnant? If you are, I would find a different Dr. immediately!

When I had my first transvaginal sonogram, they said my sac surrounding my baby was mishappen and could be a bad sign of possible miscarraige. Now I have the best little 5 year old on the planet. Get a second opinion/

Week 5 - Gestational Age (Fetal age 3 weeks)
Development
The gestational sac is often the first thing that most transvaginal ultrasounds can detect at about 5 weeks. This is seen before a recognizable embryo can be seen. Within this week, at about week 5 ½ to the beginning of the 6th week, a yolk sac can be seen inside the gestational sac. The yolk sac will be the earliest source of nutrients for the developing fetus.

I would get another opionion. Some idease are she may not be as far along as she thinks for one or a possible etopic pregnancy. However, there are more possibilities out there and she should be given though possibilites by her physician.

Hi all thanks for the help... through an vaginal ultrasound the Dr. said she seen the embryo
But there was not sac. So to be a normal pregnancy there would have to be a sack if there's an embryo... right?

Usually the sac is seen first and then the embryo, correct. However, this doesn't mean the sac won't be seen the next time. I would get a second opionion and go from there.

Okay at twelve weeks the heart should be beating-she should have done a TV with doppler (to check the heart) this will tell immediately if there is a viable pregnancy there or not.
