If a player took a free kick and shot the ball into his own goal, would a goal be awarded to the other team.?

Always has been in my experience. I assume we mean he kicked the ball into the other teams goal or in other words the goal his team is defending.

However , I read in our media lately that this goal can not be awarded based on the fact that in case the (OFFENDING , GUILTY ) side has benefited from his mistake and in fact won the goal. As a rule, people should NOT benefit from their mistakes. Does this make sense to anybody?

OK after further investigation ( I went onto the FIFA website) The actual law states that if you kick the ball into your own Goal off a free kick awarded to yourself it is NOT a goal to the apposing team , they are actually awarded a corner.
