I have installed my bedroom Hampton Bay ceiling fan. Nothing fancy about the wiring here. One standard wall switch. The way that I have wired the fan has the wall switch controlling the fan and not the light. I want the wall switch to control the light and not the fan portion. How did I wire this incorrectly and what is the correct color combinations that will correct my problems or is there something else that is wrong? Thanks!

White is the neutral wire for both fan and light. Black is the power for the fan and blue is the light. I am not clear what you mean because I am sure you will want to control both fan and light somehow, does this unit have pull chains?

Yes you are correct. There are pull chains. I was just wanting to control the light from the wall switch and the fan from the pull chain unless there is a better way. Thanks for your response.

Reverse the black and blue wires, if I understand you correctly.

Kenny, I think you are picturing this wrong. If you want to control the fan with a pull chain the unit needs power, likely from your wall switch so it needs to be on. This means there's power going to the light too but your chain may be pulled to on or off. If you want to be able to walk into the room and flip a switch and get only lights then just leave the light chain pulled on and the fan chain pulled off. You may be expecting more than a single wall switch can do.

My understanding is, right now the light is hooked to constant hot and the fan to switched hot. The OP wants to reverse them. Easy enough.

So how do the colors go together? White/white, black/black etc? Thanks!

Please let us know exactly what yo want connected where?
Fan >> Direct connect to source black?
Switch to Light >> Source Black to White from Switch (place a small piece of black tape around this wire to mark it as a hot!). Blue wire from Lights to Black from Switch.
Fan White to Supply white and tie all ground wire together.
This will leave the fan connected to a constant "HOT" and only operated by the pull chain.
The lights will work off the wall switch.

White to white, black to black, blue to red. OR black to red and blue to black. One is the way you have it now, the other is reversed.
