 I'm installing a new dishwasher. It is on a 20amp breaker. The wire from the dishwasher won'r reach the junction box. The dishwasher is wired for a 120V for a 15 amp circuit.
Can I SAFELY use about 8 feet of 12 gauge wire to run from the junction box to the dishwasher?

Thanks

I'm confused too so assumptions:

1) a 20 A, 12 AWG circuit is 8' too short
2) Dishwasher requires a 120 V 15 A circuit

Going with these assumptions:
You have to make the splice in an accessible junction box UNLESS a special splice connectior is used and approved by your AHJ. This one: TYCO ELECTRONICS (ALR) CPGI-1116415-2 NON-METALLIC ROMEX CABLE TAP AND SPLICE CONNECTOR (http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/(c0503c552cyffe45h1tqbh45)/productDetails.aspx?SKU=3238110). The key is accessible.

I'd extend with 12 AWG.

I'd change the breaker from 20 to 15 amps. That will make everybody happy.
