View Full Version : Is $4,000 too much for a siding install?

My boyfriend gave an estimate to a referral that my realtor gave him of $4,000. This includes removing all the siding, fascia, and soffet, and then installing vinyl siding, fascia and soffet. The home is older so there may be some extra work they need to do before they actually put on the new siding. I didn't think it was high at all considering it was a whole house. The homeowner is buying the siding.

How many squares of siding is the job?

PS- In my area the labor for siding install is about $50 per square.

I really don't know how many squares. I know that includes removing the siding and fascia, and repairing anything if it comes up. I know he is going by what he normally gets paid which is $70 to $100 a square, plus more for the fascia and soffet. He was going to write it up, because that was his rough calculation. He is not doing it himself either he and 3 of his friends are going to do it in two to three days. Plus he doesn't own the equipment so he has to rent it from his boss. I need him to write it up so I really know. Siding jobs average $10-$15K here I believe if the sider is also buying the materials.

"rough" calculations result in either a. losing money, or b. over charging. He needs to measure twice and quote once :)

... just me humble opinion :)
