Adoption

I've gotten married since My ex & I split. Since then my daughter's father hasen't seen her since. He left when she was 4 and she is now 8 years old. He pays support each month faithfully because it's intercepted from his paycheck. I want to ask him to relinguish his parental rights because my husband wants to adopt her. Does anyone know how you go about completing that process?

Yes, if he will sign over his rights to allow you to adopt, as soon as the adoption is complete the child support will end

Get a lawyer.

They'll walk you through the steps you need to take for your husband to legally adopt with the fewest problems.

Believe me, even though there is the extra expense, it's not something you want a loophole left in later for your ex to come back and claim custody at some point.

An adoption is a court proceeding. It has to be approved by a Family court judge. Hence the need for a lawyer.
