My Hotpoint FFA97 Fridge Freezer accumulates ice in the bottom of the freezer compartment.

During the first year it also did this and the Engineer fixed it without replacing any parts, but can't remember what the cause was.

I've checked the door seal and am sure its not that. The rest of the freezer is fine. Turning the temperature down to -18 make water leak out of the door (hinge side) instead of accumulating ice.

Any ideas on things to check would be useful. It's a pain getting this mother of a frige out so haven't ventured around the back yet.:)

Finally found the problem to this. A blocked (frozen) drain hole.

To solve this:

1. Switch off the power at the mains
2. Remove all the drawers from the freezer unit.
3. Unscrew the plastic back panel revealing the cooler unit.
4. Unblock the drain hold at the end of the aluminium chute. This was frozen up, so use something sharp like a screwdriver of skewer to break the ice. You shudl be able to poke the screwdriver right down the hole (at least 6") to ensure it is clear.
5. replace cover etc.

The freezer goes through a process of heater coils turning on, heating up the condenser coils and melting the frost/ice accumulation. The condensation drips to the bottom of the freezer and drains. When drain is blocked by frozen condensation ice accumulates.
