When opening our 9 year old inground pool this year, we found a large horizontal tear in one corner of the deep end. The tear is about 3-4 feet wide. Can we repair this tear rather than investing in the purchase and installation of a new liner? I am envisioning something like a 4-by-4 foot sheet of vinyl and some really strong cement ::D

Is this the original liner? If so it's probably pretty brittle by now and you will see more tears soon. Call you pool supply dealer and ask him if he carries a repair kit. Its important to use the correct vinyl and cement.

Thank you for the quick response.

The pool liner is the original one; we will contact our pool dealer for a repair kit.

Unfortunately in the two days since I sent the original message, the tear increase to about eight feet wide.

To be honest with you I'd recommend biting the bullet now and do a total replace, once they get brittle you shot.
