I am turning a small bedroom on the first floor of my home into a laundry room and need some advice on the drain for the washer. Should I run a 2" PVC pipe up into the room or can I run a smaller (say 1 1/2 or 1 3/4) from the room through the floor into a 2" in the cellar to the 3" sewer? It seems like drilling a 2 3/8" hole in the floor is rather large.

Try a 2 5/8ths" hole for the 2" PVC that you have to run. ( You may cover that with a 2" escutcheon plate.) I would not run drainage any smaller then 2" for a washer set up. Make the stand pipe at least 36" long. You will have to vent the "P" trap. You may reduce to 1 1/2", run to the attic and revent back into a existing roof vent if you wish. More questions? I'm as close as a click. Tom
