If a tree in a forest falls and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound??

LOL

Bt definition, to have a sound, you need a transmitter & a receiver. If there is no receiver, there is no sound...

I disagree.

Just because there is no one there to hear it, does not mean it didn't make a sound when it fell.

I guess it would be impossible to prove either way, wouldn't it?

There is most always a receiver nearby (squirrels, birds etc0. Except maybe in Chernobyl.

The bigger question is: If a man makes a statement out in the forest, and his wife is not nearby, is he still wrong? (joking.. )

Afraid the first post was correct. Sound is only a perception of the brain. A tree falls and nothing is around to hear it, it is only a compressional wave through the air.
