I live in a two story townhouse one day the upstairs toilet flooded and the next morning I noticed the downstairs ceiling in our living room was leaking. It stopped but later that night the ceiling we touched the ceiling and it was so soft it put a hole through it. A month later the toilet flooded again and this time immideatly water was pouring through the hole downstairs. It stopped but now there are cracks in the down stairs ceiling and it is soft.
I am renting this unit and told the landlord but he thinks that there is something stuck in the toilet and seriously he won't even look at the ceiling they said they would fix it but they have never came back or called. What is wrong, would the ceiling actually fall and what can I do about my landlord? All I think he would do anyway is put some putty to patch up the hole . I asked him of he would hire a professional to fix but he looked at me like I was craxzy and said no (he is like more than 80 years old) can he really do this I live in California HELP!!

Hey Bart...

Is your landlord suggesting that you got something "stuck" in the toilet.. Is he then also suggesting that any damage to ceiling is going to come out of your security deposit..?

Tough stuff here..?

Why has toilet overflowed twice? Do you know how to stop a toilet from overflowing if it occurs?

It is unlikely the ceiling will fall... although I can't be sure from here.. ;) A two time overflowed toilet should not be so much water that a ceiling will fall down.

Any chance you dropped something in the toilet.. Any children..

Let me know what you can... Mark
