I had a back injury, however it is feeling better and I was going to BBQ tonight so I was wondering if I didn't take any today if it would be harmful to have a few beers with dinner.

If what you wrote about above is on the up and up, there should be no concern in having a couple of beers with the BBQ as long as you have not had any meds today. They have a rather short half-life and are most likely out of your system by now.
