Would like best method for building mortar base tile shower with tile wall. I have a slab with 2" drain pipe coming out of the floor.
Replacing a fiberglass insert which keeps failing at the drain connection. I believe because of weight. People using fiberglass shower exceed 300 pounds. Please advise.
Thanks
Don

You old shower pan failed because it was never installed correctly to begin with. The pan should have about 20 globs of modified thinset or drywall mud laid down and then the pan on top. There will be no movement or creaking. You can try to build your own pan but this is not the easiest task for a DIYer. How to Build a Shower Pan (http://www.hoagy.org/house/HowToBuildShowerPan.html)
I avoid this if possible and install Swanstone shower pans and never have had one drain leak ever. Swanstone Single Threshold Shower Floor (http://www.swanstone.com/products/showerWallsFloors/singleThreshold/index.php)
