Hi there..

Just a quick question about joining new plumbing to old.

I'm installing a new kitchen in an old house & will be putting in a dishwasher along with the kitchen sink.

The existing outlet is a lead pipe going out through the wall with an ID. Of about 36-38mm.
My plan is to get some 32mm pipe to fit inside the existing lead pipe & run plenty of sealant round it.

I know this sounds a bit rough, but it worked OK on the upstairs system.
My main worry is weather the flow will be enough for a dishwasher outlet. It may be only 20mm but obviously being pumped there will be quite a high flow rate.

I work off inches. So you have a 1 1/2" lead pipe coming out of the wall for a drain. You wish to jam a 1 14" pipe in the lead stubout and caulk around it. That would be kind of "iffy" for me. I would see if I could slip a piece of 1 1/2 " type "M" copper pipe inside that lead pipe so it would be ridged enough to install a Fernco Rubber Coupling, (see image) and convert to a 1 /2 PVC trap. I would pick up the dishwasher with a branch tailpiece,(see image) connected to the sink drain. Good luck, Tom

I added the thin wall copper for a bushing so the lead pipe wouldn't collapse when the coupling was tightened. Anything that is ridged and will fit tight inside the lead pipe will do. Try your local plumbing shop. Good luck, Tom,
