Alltheweb.com clearly has more (many more) pages indexed than Google... so why is Google the top referenced search engine?

... just curious...

Google's strangle hold on the search market, roughly 70% usage.

Alltheweb, may index more pages, but what do they include in this?
Remember Google did dump a load of pages from blogs, etc.

Aaah, so their angle is quality over quantity. Makes sense.

I like this part about alltheweb:

Search tool owned by Yahoo and using its database, so their search isn't even unique to them.

This is a good piece about Google and Yahoo.
Google and Yahoo fling earns Justice Department's evil eye | The Register (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04/23/google_and_yahoo_test_probed/)

Excellent stats.

That's strange. Search a term in Yahoo and Alltheweb and you get a different # of hits.

In some cases Yahoo has more, in some cases ATW has more.

... both have far more than Google in every instance I tested.
