I am currently in the middle of a divorce and have been living in my office for the past 5 months. I finally decided to rent an apartment on a 6-8 month bases but was hesitant because I expect a job offer from 1 of 4 job applications I submitted at other federal installations in the lowcountry (I work for the Department of Defense) ; two in Beaufort and two in the Charleston area. If offered a position at either one of these locations, I will have to move since the daily commute would be to long to drive (over 100 miles each way). Can I break my lease because of this or would I have to turn the job offer down because of my lease agreement? I know military personnel usually can break a lease if they show the manager their re-assignment orders but what about us civilian employee's?

I don't understand why you did not rent on a month to month bases
And where you are at can make a difference.

1. have you merely went to the landlord and explained it.
2. can you sub rent out
3. in most areas you are only liable for the rent till they get a new tenant, so if apartments move fast that should not be a issue either.

Have the lease written with a buyout clause, Lets say an extra month's rent plus 30 days notice.
