Over 20 years ago I did the dumbest thing in my life, that still haunts me to this day. I stole from a KMart store in Edmonton, Alberta. The merchandise was under $100. The store called the police and I was taken to the statio, fingerprinted, photoed and given a court dte. When I went to court it was very quick the judge read what I had done and I admitted it and said that I was very very sorry will never do it again, etc. He fined me $75 I do not remember what kind of charge I had. That was it. I have owned my own businesses throughout the years have been bonded and have worked in the USA and been DEA cleared with out and problems (I have US and Canadian citizenship).

I am applying for a secretary job at a school in Ontario and need to have a Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening completed. I am so worried this will come up on my record. Do you think it will after this long?? Please help. This still haunts me at 43 years of age. No one knows about this, I have never been in trouble with the law in any way since or before this. Please help? What should I do.

Can it show up, yes, will it, who knows to be sure. Your best bet is to go down and have a report run for yourself so you will know what is on it.
Plus I doubt if it does show up, it will hurt anything

Yeah, being over 20 years ago any for such a petty thing I doubt it will matter. Best of luck!

Hi there, sorry to be posting years later, but I was wondering what the outcome was of your vulnerable sector screening. I'm in the same position as you and I'm really worried this will show up as a positive screening and I won't be able to continue my co-op placement this summer. Thanks so much!
