My father was a journeyman and he lived in the Republic Of The Marshall Islands (it used to be part of a US territory), anyway, I was born back in 1972. He forgot to claim me as a US citizen born abroad. I am now 29 years old. I've lived in the US for over 10 years. My question to you is, can I claim myself as a US citizen because my father was a US citizen or to I have to go through all the paperwork of applying. Or do I have to go to the US embassy and show proof that my father was a US citizen. I'm in the US Navy living in Japan right now. Can you help me?

I would call the State Department explain to them your situation. Be ready to present proof that your father was a U.S. Citizen and that you were born in the Marshall Islands.

Then ask them what paperwork you need to complete to get a U.S. Passport and then you would be all set.
