I received a fine 12 years ago in British Colombia under the motor vehicle act. What is the statute of limitations on this, as NOW the federal government is wanting to keep my taxes and GST to repay this debt?

I thought all debts in Canada had a statute of limitations of 7 years.

EDIT: SORRY IT WASN'T COURT IMPOSED BUT A FINE THE POLICE GAVE ME UNDER THE TRAFFIC ACT (WHICH Didn't EVEN FALL UNDER THE TRAFFIC ACT)

Contractual debts yes! But this is not a contractual debt. This is basically the same thing as if you were sentenced to serve time in jail and you skipped out. The sentence never expires.

Not debts imposed by a Government agency. They go on forever.

As noted, this is not a debt but a fine, pay it and go on.
