I have a maltese/cockapoo?? mix, he is neutered,1 yr old male. He talks a lot especially when he is playing or I am petting one of the other guys. He is finally learning not to use his mouth when trying to get attention (like grabbing my hand etc) He is far from alpha material but he wants to be the first to get attention, he jumps on the other boys to get to me. He is very sweet but soooo hyper and doesn't seem to be able to pay attention when trying to train basic sit/stay, down/stay. What can I do. Love him and feel we have him for a reason, but boy did he sure upset the applecart. The other 2 dogs are pretty mellow, they are a cocker and a pekingese, 10 yrs and 1 yr. oh, we have had him approx 2 months now. He gets plenty of exercise, he wears everyone else out and he never gets tired.

1 year old and a small type dog. They do tend to be hyper. He should calm down some within a year. MY mother took her shi tzu (sp?) to obedience classes at Petco or PetSmart and it helped calm him down some. Isn't all that obedient but calmed him down and he does listen a bit better.
