My child has developed a spot on her tongue. It started about 3 days ago. It first looked like she'd sucked on a straw too hard. It was a tiny red circle with 1 tastebud in the middle (the circle part looked like an imprint with no tastebuds in it). Then yesterday it got bigger, and today it is about the size of a pea. The circle is redder than her tongue and void of all the tastebuds except for 5. She is not complaining of any pain or discomfort.
Any idea what it is or if I should ride it out a few more days, or run to emergency?

Make up a solution of warm water and some salt. Have her swish it around in her mouth and spit it out. Have her hold it in the mouth to the count of at least 10. Do this a few times and repeat at least twice a day. I do this when I get a problem in my mouth. The salt heals up the inside of the mouth. If this comes back there is also another thing I would do. Go to the druggist and ask for a bottle of Pepsin. Take a teaspoon ful of pepsin several times a day. The reason for the red spots on the tongue could be a stomach problem. I had a lot of tongue problems when I was young and my mom used this home remedy on me many times.
