While vacationing in TX-got a DUI on federal property. Contacted my lawyer in IA-was advised to return to TX to answer charge. He said not to plead guilty-but to be found guilty. Does this make a difference somehow? Also--how likely is it that the state of IA will find this out? This happened over 4 months ago.

It is as likely as hiting a computer button since it will show up on your record if anyone runs it.

Yes if you are found guilty, ( no plea bargain for one) but if they find you guilty there is no admitting guilt and you can latter appeal it and also try and fight the part if they move to suspend your drivers license.

What police agency stopped you and what court did they find your guilty in. But basically who in IA do you want not to find out?

It happened on a military base in the southern district of TX. I hired a lawyer in TX-he advised me to plead guilty-as he says it is rare that the cvb notifies the Dpt of Public Safety in TX-which in turn would notify the Dept of Motor Vehicles of IA. If that happens I will lose my license in IA. Like I posted this happened 4 months ago-he then said it is really unlikely that it will go any further. Also--they gave me unsupervised Fed. Probation for 1 yr & small fine. Not sure what all this means-& it has cost over $3000 so far.

Ok, military base, he is correct "NORMLLY" they will not report it to the DMV but it can happen, and it can be found if someone searches for it.
At this point and time it is just wait and see. Also you may want to go in and run a drivers history ( like you needed it for a job or something) to see if anything is showing up. Many times a person will have their license suspended and not even be aware of it.
But all you can do at this point is wait and see

Hello IA:

You need to tell the whole story without spaces in between.

You say you hired a lawyer and he told you to do certain things (that are probably WRONG)... Then something happened in court that you didn't say. Then you're on probation. Then something happened in Iowa that you're not telling us about...

I don't know, dude. If you want help, spill it - ALL OF IT. We ain't genuis's here.

Fr_Chuck & Excon--thanks for the replies. Excon: I did shorten the entire 4 month ordeal into a few sentences. The basics are as stated: Got picked up in TX-hired a lawyer here in IA & in TX. Went back to fed court in TX-did as lawyer in TX advised, which is why I am on fed prob. To date--nothing has become of it in IA-hopefully it never will. Can I get this expunged from record? & seek early release from unsupervised prob after 6 months. If so how would I go about these 2 things? Thanks for your help guys!
