View Full Version : Toilet Will Not Fill II

I put tile floor in our bathroom. It looks great. However with the backer board and the tiles I had to shut the water supply off and raise the height of the shutoff valve. Which went without any problems. I replaced the toiled without incident and connected the flexible hose to the toilet.

After two weeks of perfect use, I shut the main water supply off again, to do the other bathroom, and then the finished toiled started to act up. I found that the water was not filling back up the toilet. So, thinking there might be something in the fill valve, I replaced it, with the same problem. Then I replaced the new hose, with the same problem. I replaced the hose because I disconnected the hose and turned the water on and no water came out. After I disconnected the hose and turned the water on the valve water came out all over the place.

So I replaced the hose once again and things seemed okay for a couple of hours, only to have my eight year old scream out that the toilet wasn't flushing again.

I don't know what to do at this point, I believe that there is some sort of water pressure issue, but I am looking for some help and guidance to where to look...

I am using a 1/2" inlet to a 3/8" outlet straight ball cock. The float asswmbly is the second picture, with the float going up and down the fill valve.

The ballcock is on the inside of the tank and the stop cock is on the supply pipe under the sink so I'm guessing you mixed up your description a bit. Shut the ball cock off and disconnect the line between the cock and the tank. Direct the line into a bucket and open the stop cock. Come back and tell us what you saw happen.

Hi Jack:

At this point, I would flush the water line to the toilet.

I would start by removing the connector from shutoff to toilet tank and then I would turn the water back on at shutoff and "shoot" the water into bucket using the toilet connector to purge line completely.

If water flows well at this junction then reconnect and try again. If still an issue, shut water off again and remove the cap at the top of the fill valve(see pic.#1 - push down and rotate cap counterclockwise). You should see a large black washer present ( see pic.)... remove this, pulse water shutoff on (cover valve with rag) and clear of sediment. Then replace washer, replace cap and try it again.

If that doesn't fix it... let me know. Mark

Oh come on now, we old farts need some latitude or at least literary license. Mark and I have been trailing each other for days minutes apart giving almost the identical answers, I just type faster than Mark.
