I am an international student. Resident Alien. I am currently doing an associates degree in civil design and I'm on a F-1 visa. I wanted to do a tutoring job online and they require me to fill out a 1099 form when it comes time to claim my taxes. I wanted to tutor in math, chemistry, physics etc. Also I already have a bachelors in mechancial engineering degree. I received that in 2003. I wanted to know if I can legally work and get paid by doing this online tutoring job.

F-1 holders are allowed to work on campus, but the on-campus employment cannot displace US residents. Also, you are limited to 20 hours of work per a week. On-campus employment must either be performed on the school's premises, or at an off-campus location that is educationally affiliated with the school.
