I have a Culligan N8 Water Softner.

Recently I had to isloate the water from it, because the water was constantly flowing, like maybe the softner was stuck in a cycle, but the softner itself wasn't making any noise other than the running water.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Also, since the unit is about 15 years old, should it be replaced. And if so, are there any good alternatives to the models requiring salt that aren't real expensive?

Thank you,

Bob

You made a good decision by hitting the bypass valve. It sounds like the softners valves are stuck, you did try unplugging too, right? I'd leave it unplugged and call Culligan or other local softner companies and ask if they can give you a cost for rebuilding the valve. 15 years on a softner is like 60 years on a man, still works just not as well.
