I consider myself a little above average on computers. I have a problem! I tried to install a new commercial font manager program on my computer [VIA Technologies running win ME (4.90.3000) with 152 Meg ram] when my computer crashed. The computer hard drive [Quantum fireball plus as 60 GB] is not viewed except as a slave after I formatted it. It is viewed as a slave in slave and in cable select. Does anyone know how I can get an operation system back on it and get it to be recognized as a master or primary drive. All my files are backed up at the end of the day on another drive that I use for that purpose only. Thank you for any suggestions that you may have.

Where do you see that the hard drive is seen as a slave?

There will be a jumper on the hardrive, change the jumper to master
Cable select will usually work, but not all the time
You should lhave 3 or 4 jumper setting on drive

1-master
2-slave
3-cable select
4-nothing

Also, the drive would have to be connected at the end of the ribbon cable and not on the middle connector on the cable to be seen as master

So, if you have 1 ribbon cable an the end of the ribbon cable is connected to the cd rom and the hard drive is connected in the middle, you have to change that around and have the hard drive on the end of the cable and the cd rom drive in the miidle for the hard drive to be seen as master

So, check the cable position, set as cable select and try again
