On 2/19/08, I send the landlord a letter with a form from the care center, which stated that they would help me with the rent. I informed the landlady in the letter my situation and what was going on. I did not hear anything from her.

On 2/25/08, the rent was due. I did not have the money nor did the care center receive the form from the landlady. On 2/26/08, I received a 3 day eviction notice. On 2/29/08, the landlady came over and told me that I had to be out by Monday (3/3/08). She told me she received the letter and form on 2/21/08, but if she would have send it, the rent would have still been late, she also told me that even if I had the money when she brought the 3 day notice, she would have not accepted it anyway. She told me that she went to the court house and they told her it would take 24 hours for a sheriff to come and evict me and she did not want my children to go through that embarrassment. She rented me a storage so that I could put my items in. on 3/3/08, she returned. I informed her that I could not finish moving my things yet. As I was taking some items to the storage, she changed the locks. She told me that she was moving her son in and getting him some roommates that way she knew that the rent would be paid.

As of today, 4/10/08, I have not received my deposit, nor a letter informing as to why she kept the deposit.

I have 4 children and have cancer, finished my chemo in 12/07.

What can I do about this, if anything?

She has my telephone number and has not contacted me at all.:confused:

What State? The laws are different.

She illegally evicted you without going to Court. Contact an attorney.

While she had a "legal" right to evict you, since she had not received the money by a certain date, she is not required to accept a notice form an agency that they would pay.

but she can not merely change locks either, so you may sue her for illegal eviction, she will have to pay damages, a value of the rent and most likely your deposit back.

Had she meerely waited for you to move your goods, the deposit could have applied to rent due, any damages and so on, But her locking you out change everything.
