How do we know if tax return is accepted if we have file by paper (not electronically) and also I'm neither expecting refund nor do we owe any taxes

Normally if you don't hear from the IRS in 6-weeks it means it has been "Accepted As Filed."

However, IRS can come back even after a year if it finds some info is missing or inaccurate.
