I have been a electrian for 20 years and never smelt that from wires, but that doesn't say it's not true. How old is your house? By chance do you know what type of wire is used?
Do you notice lights flickering? Dimming for no reason??

Thank you Mr Eric for answering back... no lights flickering no dimming House is just over 3 years old We took all the plates off the walls ( plug ins and light switches )and 2 of the 8 had the wires almost melted in 2. So to be on the safe side we are going to change every outlet in the house.

Sounds familiar to me, I have a room that gets that smell off and on. It's due to a birds nest in the roof!

Someone had suggested that was what it could be and I just could not believe slow burning wires would smell like fish. Guess we learn something new every day huh. We also eliminated some of the plug ins maybe it was just to many for that room.

I wish my problem had been that simple and inexpensive lol I would have loved to have crawled up in the attic and shooed them out. :)

A fishy smell that comes and goes in a bedroom... I can imagine another kind of "burning cause", but that is not related to anything electrical , though lot's of sparks can be involved too!. :D
But seriously : do you perhaps have a cat or other free-roaming animals in the house?
