His mommas milk has dried up and he is not fully weaned... Im don't know what to do. I cannot seem to get him to even eat softened food. All he wants is milk substitute... any suggestions? He only weighs 1.4 ounces. Thanks for any advice you can give!

I would try mixing a small amount of soft food in with the milk substitute so that he can get used to the flavor. Gradually increase the amount that you mix in with his "milk" until he starts to eat the food by itself.

Thanks for your help! I will try that, he is definitely a finicky little guy.

He is now 8 weeks old, weighs 1.5 pounds, and does not want anything to do with dog food. We are feeding him puppy formula with a puppy bottle and he has just started eating baby food. Today he has not wanted to eat, just sleep. I have gotten him up and made him eat then he goes back to sleep. I am really worried that he is not thriving like he should. I know that runts can be hard till they really get on their own four feet but I am beginning t get concerned.
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated as we have never had such a small dog, we are used to siberian huskies!
Thanks!!

Well, he is only 2 months old. He doesn't absolutely have to be weaned yet. I would just be patient with him, especially if he's the runt. Just stick with the puppy formula for a few more weeks and once he's a little bigger, help him along with the dog food.

If he continues to sleep and doesn't really eat much, I would take him to the vet just to get him checked out for Parvo. Keep an eye on his stools to make sure there isn't any blood in them. Check out this page on Parvo.

My mother and I lost an 8 week old puppy yesterday to Parvo and it's an awful thing.
