Does anyone know via Ohio Building Code if the Furnace room in a finished basement needs to have the 1/2" drywall, vapor barrier, R-13 insulation and framing to meet code??

Also, does the ceiling need drywalled in this same area??

I would like to save the cost of doing this in what is going to be a Furnace and Storage area...

There is no requirement for the furnace room to be finished, hence fire rated, in residential construction unless you have a 45,000 BTU or bigger Boiler down there. It's not a bad idea though as it provides fire protection and deadens the sounds produced by your mechanical equipment.

We aren't on the same page here. You are telling me how the air circulates in the home. My question deals with where does the flame get its air. Some furnaces just pull room air inside to feed the flame while others have a 4" PVC pipe that goes to the exterior of the house to pull unheated air inside. Do you know type you have ?
