Hello,
I am on H1B visa and have been working in the US on this visa for the past 4.5 years. I have a 401k through my employer. I will be migrating to the UK in the next 3 months. I was wondering what options do I have which will help me minimize my taxes in reference to the 401K.

Thanks,

I believe your best option is to roll the 401K over into an IRA immediately, then manage the IRA from the UK via phone and email.

That way, you maintain the retirement account for your retirement (as intended) and NOT have to pay usurious taxes to access your money.

When you become eligible to withdraw the money at age 59.5, you can do incrementally and file a non-resident tax return to account for the money withdrawn, paying little or no taxes as you gradually draw down the account.
