I currently live in Texas and have been divorced for the past 3 years. I was awarded the house we purchased together and it is stated to be my sole property in our divorce decree. I also changed my last name back to my maiden name. How can I go about getting my name changed on the title and other property records? Can I just use an official copy of my divorce decree or are there other papers I have to file? And is it possible that I have my ex-husband sign a Quit Claim Deed to get his name off the title (Deed) even though he is still on the loan? Thanks.:)

I am not familiar with Texas, but almost anything can be filed in the deed records: deeds, divorce decrees, and affidavits. The Quit Claim Deed should work and the consideration for the deed is the decree of divorce. If he refused, prepare an affidavit and attach a certified copy of the decree of divorce to it.

In live in Florida and got a divorce and was awarded the house. The loan was in my name alon already. My ex refused to sign a quit claim and the judge made an order giving me the house without him signing the deed (as he could not be located). How and where do I file to get the title changed??

Get the order recorded. I believe that's done at the courthouse for the county where the land is situated, in this state.

BTW, please don't add your question onto someone else's thread. Start a new thread of your own, instead. Thanks.

Sometimes it takes a great while to update tax assessment databases. To be sure, you should call someone at the county.
