He I saw some of your postings as was wondering if I could ask you a question. I removed my old toilet to replace it and the old flange was a brass ring and a lead flange bent over the ring. I straightened the lead out carefully and removed the ring. Now I want to put a new flange in. Can I use a "Twist and Set" PVC Toilet Flange inserted inside the lexisting lead/copper pipe? Or should I put the brass ring back and bend the lead over the brass ring again? The finshed height of the flange would be about 1/2 inch below the finshed floor.

Good morning Steve,
You have a lead closet bend. A twist and set flange will not work on soft material such as lead. I'm a old timey plumber that remembers those days before closet flanges. Why not do what we did back then before the days of cast iron pipe and closet flnges.
First off you must realize the a closet flange does nothing more then secure the toilet bowl to the floor. It doesn't stop leaks or make the toilet flush better. In short, it's not really necessary.
Bearing that in mind, If this were my call I would put the brass ring back, secure it to the floor with screws and bend the lead over the brass ring again?
A wax seal with a funnel is just added insurance against a leak, (back in the old days we used a rope of plumbers putty for a seal). You may now set your toilet with confidence. Good luck, Tom
