I went for a cervical smear test 2 days after my last period. 3 days later I started getting spotting, especially after gym. The nurse said that some women do get spotting after the test and that I should wait till my next period comes and goes and see how I feel. The spotting stopped for a couple of days as I stopped going to the gym and my period arrived 3 days early. Today is 9th day and though the period has stopped, when I wipe myself with a tissue, a light pinkish discharge is noticed on it. I am worried because I don't know if this is just end of period discharge (though usually I am clear by the 7th day) or am I still spotting due to the cervical exam. I have been on pill since 3 years now and haven't missed any pill. Please advice me on this. Thank you.

By cervical smear test, you are talking about your PAP smear correct? Just a routine exam or were any other procedure performed? I just want to make sure we are on the same page.
As for your period arriving 3 days early and the spotting, I can speak from personal experience in saying that when I was younger (my first 2 or 3 pap's) I also spotted and had cramps while my friends had no problems what-so-ever. Have you had any other problems from pervious pap's?

Dear Chrissy,
Cervical Smear was a procedure in which an instrument was inserted in my vagina right uptil my cervix to scrape off some cervix cells to check for any cell abnormality. I am not sure if the PAP smear is the same one. It was just a routine examination but it was very painful for me and the nurse said that my muscles were very tensed and not allowing her to go deeper. She had to make a couple of attempts before she could get a sample. I was sore a couple of days after and then the spotting started. I am 25 years old and my periods have been very regular, so this time when it is my 9th day and I'm still having some staining, it is really worrying me. This was my first smear test and was extremely painful. I am very tensed right now, and I just hope the spotting stops. Sometimes it doesn't spot like yesterday, and again at the end of the day there was a brown blood stain about the size of a penny in my underpants. Your advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
