Hey David,
2 questions how do I cut this old pipe ? And what should I use to splice in the pvc
It will depend on whether this will be a vertical or a horzontal cut as to how I would cut it. Be prepared to use a slew of metal blades if you cut with a Saws-All, Cast iron's very hard. I don't like to use rubber boots as couplings. They can sag and the connection's not ridged. I use No-Hub Couplings,(see image) to make a connection that is both ridged and permanent. Good luck, Tom

For cutting cast iron pipe that's horizontal we use a set of cast iron snap cutters,(see image) Yuu may rent them at any Rent-All. Don't let them rent you a set of ratchet cutters, ask for the snap. Good luck, Tom

Is this a vent or a drain. Tom's right about having a slew of blades if you use a reciprocating saw, that is unless you buy hardened bi-metal blades, maybe only two will be needed.
