What work is done by a forklift rasing a 583 kg. box 1.20 m ?

First of all, thank you for posting your question to the Ask Me Help Desk.

Let's recall that work is calculated as the force times the distance.

Work = Force x Distance

Where distance is measured in meters and force is measured in newtons the units of work become N-m or J (joules)

Since we are given 583 kg we must convert this to newtons.
We will do this by multiplying by the acceleration due to gravity.

583 kg x 9.8 m/s/s = 5713.4 N

Force x distance

5713.4 N x 1.20 m =

6856.08 N-m or J
