Hello there!!
Hope I'm writing at the right section...

Well.. I was talkning to a friend of mine yesterday and she told me that she can get someone's ip just by talking to him/her on msn messenger... (NOT with some script or programm but from commands prompt -DOS-)
And here comes the question...
I know than you can't see someone's ip just by talking to them because msn and Yahoo messenger are not using a direct connection between the two pcs.. You have to send a file first and run the commands prompt (netstat) in order to trace their real ip (an not the server's)...
So... is there something that I don't know?? Can what she told me be true? Is there some way that you can trace someone's ip via msn without file transferring??

Thank you in advance for your answers...

PS: Just because I don't want you to think anything illegal... this conversation between me and my friend wasn't about hacking!! We happen to be game opers with this girl at a browser game (never mind which) an double accounts from the same ip are prohibited... so it was that kind of conversation...

Netstat will work to tell you what IPs your computer is connected to. Over MSN, you are not normally connected, but certain activities are direct connections, such as file transfer or webcam sessions or playing the games and things like that. Then the IP will show up on netstat.

Other people, please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not exactly very knowledgeable :)

Capuchin, you're correct. Unless there is a file tranfer, there's no way that netstat will work.
Now some script on websites will collect your ip address.
